BeforeHost Joan Steffend and designer Susan Weber transform a formal living room with a warm "South of the Border" look for less than $500.
Wall Paint – $20A subtle coat of opalescent glaze is painted onto the walls to warm up the existing green paint and to give the room a more southwestern feel.
Bookshelves – $88The two middle panels serve as the back, and the two outside panels become the sides. Lumber is added for the shelves, and crown molding is attached on the top and sides to add height and accent. The shelves are placed on each side of the large picture window to become the focal point of the room.
Window Seat – $36The seat is constructed from a salvaged door that has been covered in foam and fabric. The back of the seat is mounted directly to the wall. Legs are made for the front of the seat out of salvaged 4 x 4 posts and decorative finials.
