Before: Spacious Bedroom, Drab FeelColleen and Gerald have a spacious master bedroom with a beautiful fireplace, but they don't know how to fill the space. Mismatched furniture and blank walls leave the room feeling drab. They have one lamp for bedside reading but no nightstands. The fireplace doesn't have any defining features, and the windows lack stylish draperies.
After: Functional, Blue Space on a BudgetA soothing blue color ties together the bedroom to the already remodeled master bath, which has lots of custom tile work in various shades of blue. The bed is repositioned so that it is opposite the fireplace. Custom silk draperies behind the bed define it as a focal point in the room while camouflaging the closet doors and creating a dressing area for the couple. Matching furniture and a headboard for the bed give the space function and definitive style. Here's how the team got it done for less than $1,000.

Furniture Adds SymmetryInterior designer Kristan Cunningham finds just what she needs to furnish the room at a hotel-furnishings reseller. Two of each, dressers and nightstands, along with a new headboard will give the room symmetry.
Wall ArtKristan tapes off a square area, and once the coat of blue paint is dry, she removes the tape to reveal the crisp white lines that form the edges of a framing area. She then creates the wall art by stamping a simple design on decorative paper and framing the finished piece.
Custom Fireplace MirrorDesign coordinator Dave Sheinkopf builds a custom mirror for the fireplace. On each side, he installs a small shelf that will hold a candle. He paints it and inserts the mirror, which he secures with two-part epoxy adhesive.
Silk DraperiesDesign coordinator Spencer Anderson hangs custom silk draperies behind the bed to camouflage the closets and up the bed's new dramatic appeal in the space.
Round MirrorA decorative round mirror is hung over the bed in front of the drapes.
Contemporary Items Provide StyleContemporary bed linens and lamps, along with a creamy, beige area rug, are added to the updated room.
Bed BenchA new bed bench provides a spot for enjoying the fire, and formal drapes in a creamy-tone flank the fireplace for instant class.
