Fixing Small Household Problems

TIPical Mary Ellen offers tips for fixing little problems around the house.

Figure A

  • If ceilings are hard to paint, purchase one of the new ceiling paints that goes on blue but dries white (figure A). That way, you can see where you painted.

Figure B

  • If you step on a wad of gum, spray lubricant on it (figure B) and then scrape it off with a plastic scraper.

  • Figure C

  • Use spray lubricant to shine your boots or dress shoes (figure C).

  • Figure D

  • Spray lubricant can also be used for phone buttons that get stuck when pressed (figure D) or for cleaning and removing dirt from the phone or even TV remotes.

  • Figure E

  • If the soleplate on your iron is dull (figure E), use a damp sponge to rub with a non-abrasive cleanser. Use pipe cleaners to clean inside the holes. To clean the inside of the iron, use vinegar and water.
