This long and narrow living room gets a modern country makeover with warm colors throughout.
Jeff and Candice Borges have a long, narrow and outdated living room so they look to a young, hip designer, Brittany Todd, for design help. Todd wants to update the space with rustic trim, warm pumpkin walls, a more streamlined entertainment center, built-ins and additional seating. She also plans to add canned lighting and a more dignified fireplace.
Even after two years, they are still having a hard time trying to arrange the furniture in their narrow living room. They say they don't have a particular style and would like to incorporate more seating for entertaining.
The narrow space becomes a spacious room as the existing floor plan is just slightly modified with a smaller chair by the fireplace, a narrow leather ottoman and warm colors used for the walls, trim and accents throughout.

Before: The over-scaled entertainment center and coffee table dominate the room, leaving little space for walking and much-needed seating. Plus, valuable space is being wasted on either side of the entry door.
After: A sleek entertainment center with clean lines offers nice display space for favorite pieces. The leather ottoman doubles as more seating for visitors, as do the shelves flanking the door, making the entry functional and stylish.
