Ronie and Matt Alexander's rectangular living room has them baffled and they need design help. Design student Lucius Moody will reface the fireplace, make some custom artwork, rearrange the furniture and paint the walls beige.
Before: Awkward Layout
The Alexanders have always wanted a long and narrow living room but now that they've got it, they don't know what to do with it as their existing furniture arrangements aren't quite working for them.
After: Perfectly Arranged
Floating one couch in the middle of the room creates a better seating arrangement and a low television stand doesn't dominate the room like the old cabinet did.
floor and table lamps, rug (Target)
wall and beam paint: Navajo White (Glidden)
Before: Hidden Fireplace
The wood-burning stove tucked into the fireplace could be a great focal point, but the painted white brick is lost in the white walls.
After: Strong Focal Point
Cast stone adds texture and interest to the fireplace surround while cream-colored walls make the new artwork stand out.
