Sophisticated Suite: How Can You Get the Look?

Sophistication comes, in part, from a dominant hue repeated throughout a room.

To create a similar look in your home, choose a dominant hue, such as the rich burgundy the McCutchens chose, and scatter the color throughout your room. "Color repetition keeps the eye moving and weaves spaces together," Diane [Kolesar] explains. Use color on walls and floors as well as furnishings. Punctuate your design with accent colors in spots where you want the eye to linger, such as at the head of the bed or on the top of the fireplace mantel. Use patterns to visually link window dressings and upholstery and give the design a cohesive look.
