Kenneth Brown transforms this homeowners open floor plan into a relaxing retreat.
The kitchen is kept in the center of the space since the plumbing is already there. A large island provides more countertop and cabinet space — it also serves as a visual trick to draw you into the living room and to the view outside. Cherry wood cabinets are installed with the grain running horizontal instead of vertical reinforcing the visual trick to pull your eye through the rooms. Chrome drawer and cabinet handles and stainless-steel appliances repeat the chrome found around the fireplaces. Teak barstools with leather seats repeat the materials found in both the dining and living room.
