Aboriginal Screen Paintings

Aboriginal-inspired artwork painted on screens is a low-cost way to add interest and depth to any wall.

Materials and Tools:

aboriginal art books for inspiration
black fiberglass screening
picture frames
brown spray paint
acrylic paints
small paintbrushes
painter’s palette (or small plastic tray)
staple gun (or heavy-duty stapler)

1. Use reference books for ideas/inspiration to create an aboriginal design. Remove the glass from the frames and paint them brown. Let dry.

2. Cut the fiberglass screening and stretch it over one frame at a time. Pull it taut, and then staple the extra to the backside of the frame (figure A).

3. Squeeze small amounts of the chosen paint colors onto a palette. Paint the desired design onto the screen using enough paint to cover the entire surface. Let dry and hang.
