Before: Bland Dining RoomAmy and Steve Sheppard's historical house is being updated and refurbished. They love the integrity of the old home, but they've reached a roadblock when it comes to their antiquated dining room. An attempt at light green walls doesn't work for the homeowners, and they'd like to expose the original fireplace. Enter design student Monique Green who plans to update the home by exposing a closed-in fireplace, brightening the walls and touching up the trim.
After: Bold Color SchemeThe newly exposed fireplace is topped with stained plywood and a new mantel, making it the focal point of the entire first floor. The bold paint color highlights all the dark wood tones in the room.

Before: Ordinary SpaceThe Sheppards want the overall look of the dining room to fit their older home and they'd also like to incorporate their inherited furniture into the new design.
After: Mission-Style DesignA new Mission-style light fixture adds warmth while accents of red in the window mullions and fabric treatments create a rich feeling in the space.
