A Two-Room Makeover

How do you combine country, Zen and minimalism? Design on a Dime shows you how in this Living Room/Dining Room makeover.

  • The TV stand in the living room is a disorganized eyesore and the furniture arrangement doesn't take full advantage of the large open space.
  • The furniture is repositioned to make the living room feel more inviting.
  • Right now, the room doesn't have any style direction and each roommate has a different idea of what it should be.
  • The dining table gets lifted with a new base and the entry even gets some attention.
  • Burbridge constructs a base for the dining table out of oak newell posts and lumber. The four posts and the wood frame are stained a medium brown.
  • Snijders updates the bases for the travertine tables with layers of brown and copper paint. He starts with a chocolate brown color then sponges on a lighter shade of brown. Copper paint is lightly sponged over the top of those colors and used to accent some of the table details.
