Before: Messy KitchenIan Kahn took over his family's large home when they moved back to Pakistan. He has settled in everywhere except for in the kitchen, where there is so much clutter he is scared to even enter the room! He wants to make it functional as well as presentable.
Professional organizer Sandra Briggs takes on the challenge. Her plan is to help Kahn sort through all that stuff, then organize it with a more streamlined approach. She also plans to separate the large area into various zones: a dish zone, a cooking zone and a coffee zone. Check out the results:
Before: No Storage SpaceEndless pots, pans and cooking supplies contribute to the cluttered mess in this large kitchen. There are more items than there is storage space, and there certainly isn't enough room to sit down and have a meal.
After: Updated KitchenNow it is a sleek, inviting space for Kahn to use and enjoy. The warm beige color on the cabinets and doors complement the new Corian countertops, and the updated island with barstools is a great dining spot.
Before: Crowded CabinetsThe kitchen cabinets are packed full of mismatched containers and lids--all leftover from when his family lived in the house.
After: Spacious CabinetsNow the space is filled with dishes that Kahn will actually use. The darker cabinets give the room a more masculine feel.
Before: Too Many SuppliesThe cleaning supplies underneath the sink, also left from his family, are more than enough for a bachelor.
After: Storage BasketThough pared down, the supplies remain in the same spot, but are put into a sliding basket to conserve space.
After: Clear CounterspaceThe counterspace is completely clear, save for the cooking supplies that are next to the stove and the new toaster oven on the opposite side.
After: Double-Duty Kitchen IslandA key part of this zone is the island that doubles as a workstation and eating area, eliminating the need for a formal kitchen table.
Before: Unnecessary FurnitureThe large kitchen table and hutch were great when Kahn's family was in the house, but now they are unnecessary and cumbersome.
After: Casual Seating AreaReplacing the table and hutch is this casual coffee-shop area, complete with oversize chairs that were already in the home, and a new coffee table.
