Materials:

1" square wood stripping
thin copper sheeting
scissors
hammer
awl
hot glue gun
copper-topped fence-post caps
flat fence-post caps
corner molding
post or decorative wall bracket

Steps:

Figure A

  1. Create a rectangular frame out of the 1-inch square wood stripping (figure A).

Figure B

  • Wrap the copper sheeting around the box to measure; cut out with scissors (figure B).

  • Figure C

  • Create indentations on the copper with a hammer; use an awl to punch holes for the light to filter through (figure C). Create the same pattern on each of the four sides.

  • Figure D

  • Attach the copper to the wood frame with hot glue (figure D).

  • Figure E

  • Paint the wood on the copper-topped fence-post cap black. Attach to the wood frame with hot glue (figure E).

  • Figure F

  • Cut corner molding to fit the corners of the frame; paint black and attach with glue (figure F).
  • Paint a flat fence-post cap black; secure to the bottom with glue.
  • Either mount on a post or on a decorative wall bracket.
