Culinary Paradise

These homeowners hope a design expert can help transform their kitchen into a functional, eye-catching space so that the inside of their home will finally look as great as the view outside.

Before: Dated and Cluttered
About seven years ago, an old flame was rekindled when John Towns, on business in the city, called on an old girlfriend to see how she was doing. Suzie, living in a 1940s bay-front cottage she bought more than 20 years ago, was doing fine and was happy to hear from John, so they decided to meet. Shortly thereafter they were married, and John moved into the little cottage with the spectacular city views. Over the years, John and Suzie began renovating their home to give it an overall facelift and a more contemporary feel. The kitchen, however, has never been redone and is more of a project than the homeowners feel comfortable taking on themselves. They hope that a design expert can help transform their kitchen into a functional, eye-catching space so that the inside of their home will finally look as great as the view outside.

After: Spacious and Inviting
After careful consideration, John and Suzie decide Maloos Anvarian's design best encompasses all they were hoping for. Now the room that was once separated into three distinct spaces is open, spacious and inviting. The new skylight, windows and roofline provide a clean look with plenty of natural light. Dark maple cabinets double the amount of storage space that previously existed and help clean up an area that was highly visible and very cluttered. The new island, bar and stove make the perfect additions for visiting and entertaining and are complemented by new chairs and window coverings.
