With the kids grown and gone, these homeowners are looking to update their '80s-style living room. They hope that experts can help them create a modern/contemporary formal living room that will suit their needs for years to come.
Before: Stuck in the '80s
Over a decade ago Gene and Dede Gallonio designed and built their 8,000-square-foot home to reflect their casual, contemporary tastes and accommodate their growing family. Fourteen years later, however, lifestyles and design styles have changed in the Gallonio home. The kids are grown and gone, and Gene and Dede, now empty-nesters, are looking to update their '80s-style living room. They hope that experts can help them create a modern/contemporary formal living room that is still reflective of their unique preferences, but one that will suit their needs for years to come.
After: Contemporary Living Room
After careful consideration, the Gallonios decide that Karen Ziccardi has the most colorful and unique presentation that best suits their desires for the room. She transforms a plain, outdated space into a clean, contemporary room with modern flair. A better furniture layout allows for easier flow when entertaining larger groups while placement of a shapely custom sofa takes advantage of the fireplace. Various fabrics, art, plants and accessory pieces are used throughout the room to add color and life, and the updated black fireplace surround creates an artistic focal point with timeless style. Finally, new recessed and display lighting is used to add warmth and make the room more inviting and dramatic.
