A small lake cabin becomes a large, stylish home.
The homeowners moved into the family cabin a year before they were ready to remodel. They love the wooded lakefront lot and were thrilled about updating the building that has been in the family for 40 years. The goal of the remodel was to create open living spaces and add a private bedroom area, all while keeping the original charm of the cabin.
The daughter of the homeowners, an architectural student, came up with the new design. She converted the old cabin into the master bedroom suite and created a large addition for all the public spaces of the home. Maintaining the beautiful views of the lake was a consideration with the design. The exterior was changed dramatically, but still retained the cottage style with a covered front porch and shake accents. Inside, the living spaces are open and inviting with views out to the wooded lot and lake. Other highlights of the remodel include a bright, open dining room and artwork by the owner displayed around the home.
