A Sailor's Delight

Nautical influences abound in this unique ocean-view home.

For people who love being on the water, there's nothing like sailing the open seas, but unless you live on a boat, sooner or later you find yourself high and dry. So how do you keep your sea legs? For starters, you could build a ship-shaped house. That’s what Jim and Carol Womack did. With the help of architects Jeff Dungan and Louis Nequette and interior designer Carol Murphy, the Womacks' idea sailed.

Upon entering the home, guests have a clear view to the top of the tower and the light streaming in from the windows. The living spaces wrap around the edges of the tower and entry, providing for a 360-degree visual delight of the home's special characteristic. Long and narrow, with high ceilings and exposed beams, the living room has the feeling of being inside a ship. The rustic look Murphy wanted to create started with the dark-stained floors. A natural fiber rug exhibits a nautical influence with its rope-like weave. Wall decoration consists of shell and fish illustrations and framed maps.
