$40 - Paint
Three of the walls are painted a warm neutral color; the fourth wall is painted in a diamond pattern with the neutral color and a soft mossy green hue.
$64 - Shelving
Storage is added with floor-to-ceiling shelves mounted to the wall. A small workspace is worked into the design on the end.
$64 - Filing Cabinets
Two brand-new filing cabinets are set under the window.
$71 - Drapes
Fabric panels are hung from inside the wall-to-wall valance to hide the workspace when not in use.
$21 - Paint
The homeowners' existing desk is painted black and placed facing out into the room.
$38 - Chair
A thrift-store chair is tidied up with new cushions, paired with a chest of the homeowners' and placed in the corner for a small reading spot.
$15 - Magazine Rack
Chrome towel bars are repurposed into a magazine rack over the reading nook.
$9 - Artwork
Craft letters and leftover paint add interest to a bare wall.
$18 - Sconces
Two wooden boxes are turned into wall sconces. A hole is drilled into the bottom of each larger enough for the electrical socket and finished with a light bulb. Once attached to the wall, cord covers are mounted and painted to make them blend in.

Accessories include storage boxes, pear-shaped candles in a dark wood bowl and contemporary table lamps.
