The history of communal bathhouses is reflected in this design.
Here’s a bathroom that reflects a Japanese retreat. Japanese bathhouses originated as gathering places for communities, and this bathroom continues that communal spirit with a spacious soaking tub.
Merrie Fredericks created this Japanese bathhouse to suit the homeowners' desires. The walls are a water-resistant Brazilian plywood with wood gracing. The warm glow of the wood is offset by the blue of the Pennsylvania flagstone underfoot. Harmonious natural materials keep the bathroom true to Japanese design. The soaking tub was designed so that bathers can walk right in up to their neck and feel the warm water from head to toe. An earthy basin sink, with its soft, angular shape, embodies the room’s Asian flair.
