Caribbean Cottage

A World War II military bunker becomes a beautiful tropical retreat.

Turning an old World War II military bunker into a cozy and inviting home would seem a daunting task, but that's just what Alex Randall did. Randall bought the Virgin Island property and the concrete structures in 1995, and enlisted architect Charles Pemberton and architecture consultant Richard Weber to help make his dream a reality.

The former bunker was turned into a cabin with an adjoining pool sheltered by a pavilion. Now Randall enjoys a crimson sunset over the turquoise waters of the Caribbean nearly every evening.
