Washington Carriage House

Michael Carr turned an old carriage house into a unique home.

Michael Carr lives in an 1880s carriage house that used to shelter horses and buggies as they traveled through the northwest section of Washington, D.C.

Carr, a retired illustrator, made his master bedroom in what used to be the hayloft and uses the original trap door to get downstairs. Carr is also intrigued by the history in the neighborhood and has worked to get a historical designation for the area.
