Fifties Kitchens

The electric frying pan made the kitchen oven mobile and could be used for every meal of the day!

Dinettes, with their laminate surfaces, chrome edging and vinyl seat covers, exemplified post-war sleek design.

The biggest thing in the 1950s kitchen was the introduction of color. Bright pastels in yellow or pink were all the rage, and they covered brand-new automated appliances. Convenience was the name of the kitchen game, and in the 1950s there were more new electric gadgets and gizmos than you could shake a spatula at. Easy clean-up was also key, with surfaces like Formica and vinyl covering countertops, tables and floors. Resources
