Bungalow Kitchen and Living Space

Designer Mark Williams creates a charming kitchen and family room designed for modern living while preserving the architecture in a 1920s bungalow.

New Use

Relocating where the basement and attic stairs used to bisect the house allowed room for a desk area with shelves for cookbooks.

Preserving an Era

Rich, dark, walnut-stained white oak floors were used for the family room and kitchen to continue the original flooring of the bungalow.

Smart Design Tip

While the center island was created from stock IKEA base cabinets, it looks custom thanks to the outside mitered edges of the gray Silestone top.

Flow and Function

The newly opened kitchen and family room are accessible to both the informal and formal dining spaces in the home.

Outdoor Entertaining

Located directly outside of the kitchen and family room combination, a screened outdoor living room allows the homeowners to move the party outside on warm nights.
