Budget-Friendly, Masculine Bathroom

Designer Katheryn Cowles completely overhauled an outdated bathroom to create a transitional retreat.

  • Before: Dated Bathroom

The bathroom had outdated wallpaper and a builder-grade acrylic tub and shower.

  • After: Transitional Design

The walls in the bathroom are painted red to create a background for the neutral vanity and shower. Large tan tiles are used to create a walk-in shower, while smaller bronze tiles are inset between them to add interest.

  • Tiled Shower

The builder-grade shower is replaced with a large walk-in, tiled shower. Glass doors in a dark frame add to the masculine feel of the space.

  • Before: Cluttered Vanity

The whole bathroom needs an upgrade, including the out-of-date wallpaper and the standard fixtures, countertops and cabinetry.

  • After: Streamlined Cabinetry

Deep brown cabinetry features clean, contemporary doors with bronze knobs and brings out the brown accents of the cream countertops. To save some money, Cowles builds a frame around the existing mirror rather than buying a completely new one.

  • Metallic Influences

A mosaic tile sink is lit from underneath for a one-of-a-kind look, and bronze patina tiles are used for a backsplash.
