Trends in Action: Feminine Master Bath

See how a designer combined feminine elegance with a little shabby chic.

  • For a master bath with the feel of a ladies-only retreat but enough gadgets to keep hubby happy, follow designer Julia MacDowell Fleming's lead and go for shabby chic like she did here. And don't be afraid to paint it pink — it's one of today's hottest colors.
  • Mosaic tile in a neutral color was used on the countertops of both vanities to offset the pink. The sink on her vanity is an elegant off-white with blue and gold trim, and on his vanity the sink is a plain off-white with scalloped detailing. Beautiful new brass faucets have been added to both sinks to work with the existing brass shower. Decoratively carved mirrors hang above the vanities.
  • A former baby-changing table has been transformed in a full-blown coffee and wine bar. With an espresso machine on top and a wine cooler below, the very happy couple can start or end the day with just the right beverage.
  • At the far end of the master bath is a luxurious garden tub, the perfect place for a relaxing soak. A multicolored linen valance softens the picturesque bay window above the tub.
