HGTV's $250,000 Challenge: Meet the Teams

Five teams from one neighborhood have been chosen to compete in the ultimate design competition. The longer teams remain in the competition, the more rooms they can update and the closer they come to winning the grand prize: $250,000.

  • Meet the stars of $250,000 Challenge! Episode 1 guest designer Kim Myles poses with Dwight and Grace Yao, Jeff and Elizabell Marquez, Rico and Danica Yovanovich, sisters Kelley and Phyllis Alexander, and Fabian and Lisa Duvernay. The design challenge is hosted by Dancing With the Stars alum Drew Lachey. Photography by Dale Berman.
  • In the first episode's challenge, teams are given $5,000 and allotted 22 hours to redecorate their family rooms. Guest designer Kim Myles, shown advising sisters Kelley and Phyllis Alexander, also challenges teams to repurpose one furnishing item from the room.
  • The Alexander sisters chat with host Drew Lachey. Kelley (center), a single mom, has lived in her home for 19 years and hopes to win the grand prize to save her home from foreclosure.
  • The Duvernays chat with Kim Myles about their design plan. They've lived in their home for 14 years and, with Fabian presently unemployed, hope to win the challenge to help offset monthly expenses.
  • The Marquezes, who've lived in their home for a year and a half, explain their vision to Kim Myles. The couple hopes to win the challenge to recoup money they've lost in their home's value.
  • The Yaos, who've lived in their house for 2 years, get feedback from host Drew Lachey. The couple will use the challenge winnings to pay down their mortgage.
  • Rico and Danica Yovanovich describe their modern design scheme to guest designer Kim Myles. The couple has lived in their home for nearly four years and hope to win the $250,000 Challenge to ease financial stress. © 2010 Scripps Networks, L.L.C. All rights reserved
