Steve Kelley

Learn more about Steve Kelley of Junk Brothers.

Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Steve Kelley, and his brother Jim, were taught early on that well-made furniture was something to respect and adore. Their father worked in the furniture restoration business and took his young sons to the workshop often. The craftsmen took them under their wings and taught them the tricks of the trade.
Jim, now 36, tried his hand at running an antique store, and then decided to focus on the transportation of antiquities. With his eye for quality furniture, his passion for people and travel, and his special talent at flawlessly touching-up damaged furniture, this business has been a success and continues to run today. Jim has a passion for snowboarding, dogs, music, cars and of course, anything that involves furniture. What's his dream project? To transform the inside of an old Chevy into a great sofa with matching coffee table.

Steve, 35, is more traditional. He also has a passion for antiques and loves the thrill of restoring a piece to its former glory. "Hidden gems are everywhere — flea markets, garage sales, even the trash! I'm always amazed at what people throw away." Steve spent his youth traveling through North America, Europe and Africa buying, selling and restoring furniture. He often gives workshops on furniture restoration and the art of finishing and staining. What's Steve's dream project? "I'd love to work on an old pool table, but I'd be willing to compromise and apply my vision of an old pool table to someone's curbside castoffs if it could work," he says with a sly grin.
