A Southwestern Desert Landscape for a Golf-Loving Couple

  • Before: Bob and Aletha's backyard is a steep slope that provides little space for activities. They'd like a fun and relaxing backyard for their family, with a design that has the feel of a lush southwestern resort.
  • After: At the base of the refurbished patio is an artificial-turf golf green. The couple's dream backyard is inspired by the desert-resort golf courses that Bob has played.
  • After: To the left of the green, a goldfish pond marks the uppermost part of a waterfall that courses down the hillside and ends in a wishing well and second pond below.
  • After: The pond below can be enjoyed from a number of vantage points. A wide variety of succulents and cacti fit with the dry Southwest climate, making for a low-maintenance landscape.
