Interactive TV


HGTV has strategic relationships with the following interactive television companies: WorldGate, WebTV, Wink, RespondTV and TiVo. Viewers who watch television via WebTV© Plus boxes, satellite dishes, advanced analog or digital set-top boxes can now engage in various kinds of interactivity while watching their favorite HGTV shows. Besides the convenience and the additional content, there's no cost to the consumer for the majority of these interactivities.

Depending upon the systems made available through the cable operator or satellite service provider, and also depending upon which set-top box is in the home, HGTV viewers with interactive systems are able to click on screen "enhancements" that allow them to:


  • View web pages that complement the shows they're watching
  • Receive e-mail links to web pages tied to their favorite shows
  • Participate in polls, surveys, games and quizzes
  • Order product samples, catalogs, brochures and other items
  • Subscribe to HGTV Ideas magazine and purchase other HGTV products
  • Send or receive e-mails via TV
  • Join online chats while watching HGTV programs
  • Engage in e-commerce
  • Engage in interactive advertisements and direct response
  • Store upcoming HGTV programs on their personal video recorder

TiVo
Viewers with a TiVo Personal Video Recorder are able to record their favorite shows digitally with ease and convenience; pause programs during airing, and restart the programs exactly where they were paused; program the recorder to find the subjects on television that the viewer most wants to see and record those shows automatically; and much, much more.
HGTV is featured in two areas in the TiVo environment: I-Preview and Network Showcase. I-Preview prompts the viewer to click on any of several promos for upcoming HGTV shows; that click orders the TiVo system to record the show during its later airing. Network Showcase displays short promos of upcoming shows on HGTV.
