Sitting Room Photos: HGTV Green Home 2010

Bathed in a paint color coined “Bracing Blue,” the sitting room offers a spot to rest, relax or read a book.

An attic hatch door is concealed in a decorative wall grid crafted by builder Glenn MacKenzie. The treatment extends the length of one wall, where 1x4s duplicate the look of expensive wood paneling.

Track lighting illuminates the entrance to the Sitting Room, where sunlight provides sufficient lighting during daytime hours.

The stairway makes its ascent to the tower level. At the landing, a 3x4-foot grapevine wreath continues the design motif of circles and squares.

Overstuffed club chairs, upholstered in a swirling fabric, stand out against a sea of blue.

Countering the circular pattern of upholstery fabric, throw pillows are accented with satin ribbon stripes.

An industrial-style table displays a small pot of greenery and a candle-filled cement tray.

Shadow boxes, filled with salvaged shells, make a dramatic presentation and echo the home’s coastal location.

A wall-mounted Viera 32-inch HD LCD Energy Star-rated television is at the ready should a small gathering segue into movie night.

A beanbag-filled hemp pouf offers additional seating for young children.

A repurposed wood mirror discovered in Yarmouth reflects sunlight and adds an additional layer of texture. “It provides a funky frame around that wonderful candlestick lamp,” says interior designer Linda Woodrum.

An aloe plant, perched atop a coffee table, injects the space with a natural element.

Pillar candles, displayed in a botanical tray, add a soft glow of light in the sitting room.

Fringe-like greenery in a decorative urn plays up the home’s seaside location and ties into the overall color palette.

A vintage basket flipped over and topped with a piece of beveled glass stands in as a coffee table. “The rich warm tones of the basket echo the warm tones of the mirror,” explains interior designer Linda Woodrum.
