After
The owners of this former fishing cabin outside Austin, Texas, wanted to give their home a more contemporary look and feel while still retaining the country twang. That's just what Barley and Pfeiffer Architects did for them.

The carport has been echoed and turned into an integral two-car garage, and all of the windows and doors have been updated for a more contemporary look. It's the innovative use of materials, however, that really make this project a standout.

The weathered brick and wide-wale vertical siding have been replaced by corrugated tin and clapboard siding, a down-home look that suits the lakeside setting--and the homeowners--just fine. Tin is also used as a roofing material, most notably on a series of small shed roofs that now shade the front windows.

The light-on-light trim and siding keep the overall look sunny and bright, which is just what the homeowners had in mind for this contemporary, country home.
