This 1935 Monterey-style house was once one of the most unusual and attractive homes in Nashville, Tennessee.

By the time architect J. Terry Bates was called to the scene, however, the landscape was overgrown and the exterior was in desperate need of work. Layers of ivy and paint were stripped away to reveal the original weathered brick facade.

The bent awning frame in the front door was replaced with a massive new portico, adding a touch of grandeur to the entryway. The entire front porch gains new prominence with the addition of broad steps that open onto the driveway and the addition of a white-framed pergola.

A newly resurfaced circular drive and understated landscape complete the picture.
