Are you in need of a little quality time alone with your sweetheart? Does your love life need a bit of a tune-up? Well, relighting the fires of romance can be as simple as making a weekend romantic getaway to a special vacation destination, or even just to a hotel a few miles away from home.

Cynthia Muchnick is a travel writer from Newport Beach, Calif. A former columnist for Honeymoon Magazine and the author of three books, including 101 Ways to Pop the Question, shares tips for planning a vacation designed to rekindle the romance in any relationship:

  • Special reservations. When you call ahead to place your reservation at the hotel or inn, make sure you say that this is for a honeymoon, anniversary or a very special weekend. This way, the staff will know that you expect the royal treatment, and they might even throw in a complimentary bottle of champagne.

  • Special room. Be sure to ask if the hotel has rooms that are more suited to romance than others. At the very least, reserve something on the second floor or above, so that you can leave the windows open without fear of passersby overhearing or seeing in.

  • Get what you want. You and your sweetheart will want everything to be perfect, and it can be easy for little things to spoil the romantic mood. If the service or accommodations aren't what you expect, speak up and ask the manager to fix the problem.

  • Pack for passion. Fill your suitcase with all the essentials for a romantic weekend. Muchnick suggests candles, massage oil, bubble bath, chocolates, lingerie and silk boxers.

  • Set a sexy scene Try putting a drop of scented oil on the light bulbs in your room. Spray the sheets and pillows with perfume and run a foamy bubble bath. Bring along a CD player with some favorite mood music and order a basket of sweet foods like fruits and candies.

The most important thing to pack, according to Muchnick, is your imagination. So picture your perfect romantic getaway and make it a reality!
