Figure C
Host Renai Ellison demonstrates an easy technique for creating personalized holiday candles that will bring an added warmth to the holiday season.

Materials:

wet tea bags
monogram stencils
white glue
large square or round candles in holiday colors (or use white or cream color)
copyright-free logos or letters
linoleum cutting tool
acrylic paints

Steps:

  1. Rub tea wet tea bag over the letters that have been chosen (figure A). Let it dry to achieve the aged look.

  2. Cut out the letters and lay them out in front of the surface that is to be covered to make sure they will fit. Put white glue on the back of the letters and place on the candle surface (figure B).

  3. Another technique begins with writing the chosen word (such as Noel, your name or a child's name) into the surface of a candle.

  4. Use a linoleum cutting tool to carve the word more deeply into the candle.

  5. You could also cut a border around the word that has been carved.

  6. Acrylic textured metallic paint (silver looks good) on a very thin artists' brush will allow you paint in the carved areas to highlight them and give an elegant touch (figure C).
