Located less than 200 miles from the Arctic Circle, the residents of Fairbanks are a hardy bunch, sometimes enduring temperatures of minus 60 degrees in the winter. The town's 32,000 residents share a strong spirit of independence and survival.

Despite a short growing season, long hours of sunlight in the summer result in spectacular blue and red blossoms at the Georgeson Botanical Garden, where cultivation and education go hand in hand.
