Owners JoAnn and Danny Raffield have done a beautiful job restoring their lighthouse, which the locals refer to as the "traveling lighthouse" because it has been moved twice. Danny said they've paid special attention to detail, using period construction methods and materials, including a massive spiral staircase with iron stairs that weigh more than 100 pounds each.

Figure A--According to Danny Raffield, the Coast Guard moved the house about six miles when they initially sold it, and he moved it 12 more miles after purchasing it.

Figure B--The Raffields have painstakingly restored their lighthouse and have re-created original construction cues such as the tongue-in-groove beadboard walls. They've also searched for original period windows and doors.

Figure C--The last piece of the restoration of the Raffields's lighthouse is this replica of the original lantern room. Raffield said it has taken nearly 12 years for craftsmen to duplicate the lantern room, working from the house's original blueprints.

Figure D--JoAnn Raffield said that decorating the large rooms presented a challenge, but many of the pieces just seemed to fall in place through the years. She's also enjoyed decorating in bright colors, using a lot of combinations such as yellows and peaches.

Figure E--Built in 1901, the lighthouse was one of the first structures designed to withstand hurricane force winds. Danny Raffield said the first floor was originally open, but they enclosed it and built a massive spiral staircase to provide access to all three floors.
