Janice Hyland and Alan Granby are both maritime art and antique dealers, so when he told her he'd bought a lighthouse, she assumed he meant a painting. The two have since renovated and expanded the Cape Cod lighthouse and filled it with art and antiques, including murals of the sea that were painted by a local artist in two upstairs rooms.
Figure A--Janice Hyland and Alan Granby added a magnificent great room onto their Massachusetts lighthouse. They also refinished paneling that was salvaged from a 19th-century Boston drugstore for one downstairs room.
Figure B--As maritime art and antiques dealers, Hyland and Granby took extreme care in the renovation of the home. It was in such disrepair when they bought it that Hyland actually fell through the floor into the cellar. Some 16 years later, the old lighthouse is not only a functional home, but it is also a work of art in its own right.
Figure C--From its vista overlooking Nantucket Sound, the home combines the old, small rooms of the original house with the soaring spaces of several additions.
