A colorful strap will help you separate your luggage from other bags.

Travel expert Marybeth Bond provides a walk through the airport experience--from packing at home and securing luggage to checking in, packing snacks and a book or two for that waiting time.
  • Use luggage ties to better secure your older pieces of luggage.

  • Add a colorful, distinctive strap to make it easy to identify your luggage.

  • Always pack nutritious snacks such as granola bars and a bottle of water for each person in your party.

  • It isn't necessary to put your entire address on your luggage tags. You can just write down your first initial, last name and city in which you live.

  • When checking in, never place your purse, laptop or other valuables on the ground. Place them between your legs or on the counter.

  • Always allow plenty of room between you and the person in front of you when placing items through the X-ray machine. This will avoid any confusion when travelers reach for their carryon luggage.

  • Ask for a seat on the emergency exit row for more legroom.
