TIPical Mary Ellen host Mary Ellen Pinkham offers her ideas for adding unexpected flavor and zest to plain soup.
- Finely chop sweet red peppers and zucchini to top cream-of-mushroom soup (figure A).
Cut cornbread into small cubes and toast in a 350-degree oven for about eight minutes to make croutons. Toss on top of a bowl of chili (figure B) to add some crunch.
Add dried cranberries to cream-of-chicken soup (figure C).
Chow-mein noodles add delicious crunch atop vegetable soup (figure D).
Cheesy fish crackers go well on top of minestrone (figure E), as do regular croutons.
Add shredded mozzarella cheese and chopped cilantro to chicken wild rice soup (figure F).Add sour cream hearts to the top of your tomato soup. Add a little bit of milk to thin out the sour cream. Place several dollops in the middle of the soup and pull a toothpick through the center to form a heart shape (figure G).
