Year-Round Cranberry Decor
TIPical Mary Ellen : Episode TIP-1401 -- More Projects »
TIPical Mary Ellen host Mary Ellen Pinkham shares tips for decorating with cranberries year-round.
- Make sugared cranberries. Just mix gelatin with two cups of water. Add fresh cranberries, a few at a time, and turn to coat. Place the cranberries in a bowl of granulated sugar. Using a fork, remove the berries from the sugar and place on a decorative plate (figure A). They are tart, sweet and beautiful.
Make cranberry swizzle sticks (figure B) in two simple steps. Thread the cranberries onto 12-gauge craft wire. Twist the ends of the wire with needle-nose pliers to make them decorative.
Fill a wide-mouthed bowl with cranberries and water. Place floating candles on top (figure C) and use as a centerpiece.
Another centerpiece idea begins by pouring water in a clear airtight container. Add cranberries that you have threaded onto 12-gauge craft wire and greens. Place a tall, narrow vase in the water as a placeholder for a candle. Weigh down the vase by filling it with marbles. Freeze. Remove the marbles that were used as a weight and replace with a votive (figure D).
Add water and cranberries to a vase. Insert real flowers (figure E). The cranberries will hold the stems in place. The arrangement will stay good for about a week.
