Sharing Yard-Sale Profits

Some people love to hold garage sales or yard sales; they have several every summer. It becomes such a way of life, these people may handle merchandise for friends or relatives, which can be risky business if terms are not agreed upon beforehand.

To keep one's friends and relatives happy after a shared yard sale, owners of the merchandise should be the ones to set prices and decide whether or not to permit any price reductions via on-site haggling the day of the sale.

A prior agreement should also be reached about disposing of unsold merchandise. Some simply donate leftovers to a charity or secondhand store-of-choice.

An easy way to keep track is by writing prices on tags or stickers with different colors of marking pens. One friend has purple prices; another has red, green or blue prices. The tags can be put in the cash box at the time of sale.
