Wallpaper Solutions

Smart Solutions : Episode SSL-314 -- More Projects »
Pat Niehaus, also known as the "The Wall Doctor," helps with a host of problems that wallpaper can present.

Fixing Big Gashes

  1. To repair gashes in wallpaper when no scraps with the same print are available, cut patterns from another paper.

  2. Place the pieces in a decorative pattern and paste to cover the gash. The pattern disguises it with a look similar to decoupage.

Preventing Unsightly Seams

  1. Before laying the paper, select a background color.

  2. Measure the wall to find out where the edges of the paper will meet.

  3. Paint the seam area in a matching background color. (Have the paint store tint wall-covering primer to match the wallpaper.)

  4. When the paper shrinks, the seam should no longer be visible.

Preventing Nail Holes

Before the paste dries on the back of wallpaper, cut an X in the spot to hang a picture. Instead of driving the nail through the paper, fold back each section of the X and drive the nail directly into the wall.
