Linda Arroz, a fashion expert, explains how to coordinate a necklace with the neckline. Factors to consider when choosing a necklace are the length of the neck, width of the shoulders, bustline, occasion and the shape and style of the neckline.
  • A round-neck choker can be used to fill in the space left by a flat-collar or V-neck jacket. Decorative elements don't flow around the entire neck, but they act to dress things up. This is a great day-to-dinner look.

  • Not only can the space within a scoop-neck dress be filled with a necklace, but the eyes can be drawn to the upper torso by this important piece.

  • If you aren't comfortable with such an important piece, try something a little less elegant. A space can be filled nicely with a trendier necklace. The piece can follow the same pattern as the scoop neck while adding a dash of simplicity and excitement.

  • Although a necklace may match the shape of a round neckline, be careful not to send a mixed message by pairing it with a top that is less formal.

  • Here's a look that works for the weekend as well as for the career. Again, the neckline is mirrored and a necklace can be used to fill the space. Chokers tend to work better with longer necks, but since they are so popular, they can be coordinated, depending on the length of the neckline. In other words, if the neckline is lower, find a necklace that drops a bit lower. Think of a choker with a square neckline as well.

  • A choker with an enhancer that hangs down a bit looks great with a V-neck. Be aware, however, of an embellishment that hangs too low and creates a conflict. Also, don't be afraid to "just say no" to a necklace with a V-neck, which can highlight the face, hair and smile.
