Dress up a dish of crab cakes with a delicious mustard sauce (recipe below).
Event planner Denise Vivaldo shows how easy it is to make home-cooked meals look just like expensive restaurant entrees.

Mustard Sauce

Ingredients:

8 oz. heavy cream
3 Tbs. mustard

Preparation and Use:

Reduce heavy cream in a sauté pan. Allow to cool, then mix with mustard. Pour into a squeeze bottle. Create fancy designs on the serving plate, such as the appearance on this plate with crab cakes (see top photo).

By serving crab cakes over uniformly-cut fresh chives and mustard-sauce designs, the dining experience is greatly enhanced. Choose a plate color that contrasts well against the mustard color.

Another idea is to serve crab cakes over corn, chopped red pepper and mixed greens (see photo at right). Stack the crab cakes for elevation, then garnish with lime.

Raspberry Coulis

Ingredients:

2 baskets raspberries
sugar to taste
3 to 4 Tbs. water

Preparation and Use:

Combine ingredients in a blender. Strain out the seeds and pour into a squeeze bottle. Create plate decorations when serving dessert such as a plain slice of chocolate cake.
