We've all seen them, and many of us have eaten them ... and best of all, they cost about 10 cents a pack. Sometimes Ramen noodles can leave a little to be desired, though , especially since the flavor packets are loaded with sodium.

Food writer Debbie Puente explains how to turn plain Ramen noodles into quick and tasty entrees.

Pad Thai in a Hurry

Ingredients:

2 Tbs. vegetable oil
1/4 cup sugar
1 Tbs. white vinegar
1 Tbs. soy sauce
2 tsp. crushed red pepper
2 pkgs. Ramen noodles, cooked (discard flavor packet)
1 Tbs. peanut oil
2 garlic cloves, minced
1/4 cup sesame seeds

Preparation:

Mix vegetable oil, sugar, vinegar, soy sauce and red pepper in a bowl to make the sauce. In a large skillet, brown noodles, peanut oil, garlic and sesame seeds. Toss the two parts together and garnish with chives and peanuts.

Crispy Ramen Egg Foo Young

Ingredients:

2 pkgs. Ramen noodles, cooked
2 flavor pkgs. (comes with noodles)
2 eggs
1 Tbs. vegetable oil

Preparation:

Cook packages of noodles, according to their directions. Save the flavor packets. Scramble eggs and add one flavor pack. Mix both noodle and egg mixture in a large bowl. Pour into a large skillet containing heated oil. When brown on one side, flip and brown the other. Lay the cooked mixture on paper towels to drain the oil and serve.

Cheesy Butter Ramen

Ingredients:

1 pkg. Ramen noodles, cooked (discard flavor packet)
2 Tbs. melted butter
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
fresh basil, chopped

Preparation:

Mix all ingredients. Put on a plate with a tomato garnish and sprinkle dish with more fresh basil.
