Caramelized Dessert Topper

This crispy shell of sugar is delicious on oatmeal, bread or rice pudding. Here's how to make it:

PHOTO
Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil. Using the container used to serve the dessert, make an indentation in the foil by turning the bowl upside down and pressing. Sprinkle sugar within this guideline (see photo).

Place the sugar under a broiler and heat until it caramelizes and turns brown. Watch carefully. Let cool into a rigid disk and place on top of serving.
