Chef Anthony Lia provides tips on how to buy and prepare garlic. Garlic is not only tasty, but it is also healthy because it lowers blood pressure and is great for the heart.
- Always look for fresh, whole-bulb garlic. The bulb should be closed, the paper tight, the color uniform and the texture hard to the touch.
- Stay away from peeled and chopped garlic, as it can contain preservatives and changes the texture of the garlic.
- Preparing fresh garlic is easy. Break the bulb into cloves. Take a single clove and insert in a rubber garlic peeler (available at any home store), press down and roll.
- After peeling the clove, it can be sliced or chopped, whichever you prefer. The more a clove is chopped, the more pungent it will be.
