TIPical Mary Ellen host Mary Ellen Pinkham shares ideas for preparing a quick, easy and nutritious breakfast.
- A good breakfast doesn't have to take a lot of time. Choose breakfast foods that are ready to eat, such as cottage cheese, fruit, or instant-breakfast mixes.
- Add chopped nuts and fruit to cereal for a protein boost. Celery topped with peanut butter makes a good breakfast, as does a hard-boiled egg.
- Keep some premixed pancake or waffle batter in the refrigerator. Pour the mix on a hot griddle to make a quick-and-easy hot breakfast.
- Pudding made with low-fat milk and topped with bananas is a quick, healthy way to start the day.
- Make a large batch of breakfast burritos and freeze. Scramble a number of eggs, place them in a tortilla with chopped veggies and a little cheese, and roll. Freeze them for later. They can be heated up in the microwave.
- Don't be afraid to eat regular foods in the morning. Just because the clock says it's time for breakfast doesn't mean the body wouldn't enjoy a lunch item.
