TIPical Mary Ellen host Mary Ellen Pinkham provides tips for livening up dull beverages.

  • Add sparkling mineral water or lemon-lime soda to lemonade for a new twist.

  • When serving tart lemonade, serve in a glass rimmed with sugar.

  • For a milder lemonade, mix with iced tea.

  • Try a sherbet float! Add sherbet to lemonade or lemon-lime soda.

  • Mint is a wonderful addition to a glass of lemonade. Other garnishes include citrus slices or zest.

  • Freeze slices of fruit such as watermelon, oranges or mango, and add to drinks in place of ice.

  • Freeze colorful berries such as raspberries or cherries in an ice mold for your punch bowl. Make sure the punch is chilled before the mold is added to slow the melting process.

  • For extremely hot days, make a slush out of your favorite drink. Freeze in ice-cube trays then blend.

  • For special occasions, make crystal clear ice cubes by freezing distilled water instead of tap.

  • Serve drinks in crystal glasses for an elegant flare.
