Some Good, Some Bad
Matt and Joanne Greenstones home is a study in contradictions. While some parts are flawless, others are in desperate need of professional help. The couple has done some work to the home and it turned out great. But, there is still work to be done, and the couple would like it done fast because they've already made an offer on another house. The 1,400-square-foot home has many great features including a 450-square-foot guest house (pictured, right). Real estate expert Donna Freeman comes over to assess the homes sales potential. She is impressed by the living and dining rooms, it all looks so good, she begins to wonder why shes even there. Then she enters the kitchen. Freeman finds the room ugly, disjointed and outdated. Next, she walks out to the guest house. The collection of mismatched furniture and miscellaneious items has Freeman confused as to the purpose of this space -- and if shes confused, buyers certainly will be too. Freeman also thinks the homeowners missed the mark in the half-finished bathroom in the guest house.
Designer Lisa LaPorta agrees with Freemans evaluation and has a $2,000 design plan that will make the rest of this home sparkle.
Step 1: Rip out the excess cabinets in the kitchen, paint the remaining cabinets then add new banquette seating.
Step 2: Give the guest house an identity, function and welcoming style.
Step 3: Finish the guest bathroom and patch the rough spots.
Carpenters Deus Scott and Greg Plitt are on board to get the job done.
