Trevor Myers and Yell Inverso are looking to sell their 1950s Washington D.C. row house so they can move to Pennsylvania to be closer to their family. Located in a trendy section of northeast D.C., this classic home boasts a formal dining room, eat-in kitchen and spacious master bedroom. The only problem is color –– there’s way too much of it!Real estate expert Shirley Mattam-Male stops by to lend her professional opinion. She finds plenty of positives features in the home until she gets to the dining room. The deep-red walls are overwhelming and do nothing to highlight the room’s beautiful architectural details. The kitchen is the room that can make or break the sale of a house, and this one's Mardi Gras colors are sure to break it. Mattam-Male loves the doors, windows and hardwood floor in the master bedroom, but the wallpaper has been painted bright red and it is starting to peel. This is sure to be a turn off for potential buyers.
Designer Taniya Nayak agrees with Mattam-Male’s critique and has a $2,000 design plan that will fill this home with neutral, buyer-friendly colors.
Step 1: In the dining room, tone down the walls and play up the positives.
